The Journey Through the Woods
Let me help you embrace and integrate your shadow to dispel the mist obscuring your lantern.
How I work
The Lost Oracle, Rockpool Publishing, Author: Fiona Horne, Artist: Veronica Collins
True transformation doesn’t come from another new map, but from illuminating the brambles and roots that keep you feeling ensnared.
The Illumination (Discovery): We begin by holding the lantern to your current landscape. We look past the external conditions that keep you feeling trapped and find the roots where they are all connected.
The Goal: To see the limiting beliefs that are holding you back.
The Clearing (Integration): Once we have identified some of these beliefs that have been blocking your momentum, we spend time getting to know them, updating them, and then integrating them so you are consciously aware of what has you entangled instead of trying to force your way through deeply-rooted brambles that are just going to snag you a few feet down the path. We’re not “fixing” you, but removing the obstacles you didn’t notice growing up around you until you discovered you were stuck.
The Goal: To integrate the resistance that helps you move forward, instead of wandering around in circles, repeating the same patterns.
The Path Forward (Clarity): With the brush cleared and the roots exposed, your true potential becomes visible. We define what life looks like when you are no longer operating from your shadow, but from your full, radiant, integrated Self. You become your own Lantern as you move forward on your journey.
The Goal: To move from “surviving the woods” to walking your path with confidence, clarity, fulfillment, and purpose. Joy becomes your compass; you are the Lantern.
“I've been absolutely terrified every moment of my life, and I've never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do." - Georgia O’Keeffe
Why is it important to do this work when the planet is in turmoil, and my life is challenging enough as it is?
I’ll start with this Mark Nepo quote: “When we heal ourselves, we heal the world. For as the body is only as healthy as its individual cells, the world is only as healthy as its individual souls.” I couldn’t believe this more. First of all, when 97% of the population is going around having no idea what a shadow even is, they’re continuing to live from it, projecting their pain, unprocessed wounds, and beliefs onto those around them, and some, onto the world around them. Simple as that. We’re also reminded daily how short life is. Don’t you want to feel like you have lived your best life? Wouldn’t you like to get to that moment of death and have no regrets?
Another reason we give ourselves for not focusing on our own personal healing and fulfillment is that we have families and responsibilities. As Karl Jung said, “The greatest burden a child must bear is the unlived life of its parents.” How often do we see parents put pressure on their children, often without even realizing it, to fulfill their own dreams, or at least to live vicariously through them? Or expecting their children to validate their lives, finding fulfillment and satisfaction only through the lives of their children? Not to mention, when we focus on our own healing and dreams, we bring these things to consciousness, put less pressure on our children, and also set an example for them to live their own best lives. To take their gifts seriously, and to believe in themselves. We teach them not to sacrifice themselves completely for others, even their own children. Parenting is a balancing act - when we sacrifice ourselves completely for our children, we put too heavy a burden on them. As rewarding as being a parent is, we can often feel like there’s just a little something missing, and sometimes feel a dullness or depression simmering below the surface. As my therapist used to remind me, “happy parents make happy children.” Children can feel our sadness and heaviness, and even worse, they don’t know if they are the cause of it. Speaking as a mother, being a parent is one of the most rewarding, fulfilling, amazing (and challenging) things one can have the privilege of doing in life, but I don’t believe it can be the only thing we live for.
When you’re feeling aligned and full of life, that energy is felt by everyone around you. You create a ripple that expands into the world and the consciousness. We need as much of this as we can get to balance the world and tip the scales. This might be where you do have power to create change. Your calling can have a positive impact on the world in myriad ways; this is why you are here. And when you live your truth and your passion, you become a catalyst and lead by example, inspiring others to do the same.
When we shine our rays of light, we ignite the light in others.
